Flooding at the Make.Shift
Clean up & Community Support
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Make.Shift building and KZAX 94.9 radio station lost power around 10pm on Saturday September 7th following a flash flood in the basement.
During the Akrasia, The Brankas, On Drugs, and JerryCore Show there was a flash flood in the basement and we simultaneously lost power. During the worst of it there were two inches of water on the venue floor and two feet of standing water outside the ramp exit door.
For many people the news of flooding at the Make.Shift is new. For long time Make Shift community members, however, flooding is an ongoing issue. Every winter when Bellingham sees heavy downpours, the basement is at risk of flooding. Make.Shift relies on donations, sponsorships, tenant rent and event income to maintain the space and our programming.
Make Shift is asking for the community's on-going support to help us upgrade & maintain our building in preparation for Autumn and Winter weather. Consistent help is extremely valuable and there are a few easy ways you can make a positive impact. You can give monthly by becoming a patron of KZAX 94.9, Make.Shift’s community radio station, on Patreon. You can choose Make.Shift to support on AmazonSmile and with Fred Meyer Community Rewards.
For the month of September the Make.Shift gallery show, This Little Piggy…, is a fun way folks can visit the space and donate by putting money in their favorite pig. This money will go towards specifically purchasing a new accessibility ramp for our front door. You can also donate to our “ramp fund” through this GoFundMe page.
